Ich zitiere... aus "A drink with Shane MacGowan" - einer Autobiographie - aufgezeichnet von seiner Freundin - die im Text als Interviewerin firmiert...
S: Back then, I was a freak.
Q: What's a freak?
S: A freak was someone who was too young to be a hippy, who didn't believe in Peace and Love or Space Trips or Ley Lines or any of that shit.
Q: What did you believe in?
S. We just believed in Hard Drugs, Loud Rock and Roll and Reasonably Long Hair.
Q: Long hair? How long?
S. We didn't war really long hair. More chin length. We despised hippies who wore afgans. We wore leather jackets and brothel creepers or winklepickers, with jeans or leather pants. We were more rock and roll. Hippies weren't into rock and roll, they were into Pink Floyd, alt that shit. We were into the Stooges, the Small Faces, MC5, the Pink Fairies, Huble ie, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Roxy Music. We were into Roxy Music, who were a soul boy band. So we were into Rox and we were tnto the soul that soul boys were into but we wern't into the soul boy boring straight livestyle.
